Sara Mann
Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor,
LPC-S
Greetings! My name is Sara, I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have a passion for working with children, adolescents, adults, families, couples and people from all cultures and stages in life. I enjoy working with people who identify as LGBTQ+ or are exploring this in themselves.
I approach people with a humble curiosity. I believe that people know themselves best, so when I’m invited into their world, I do so as their guest. Through exploring situations together and working with people’s strengths, we will find a way forward together to resolve the situation and/or enhance the person’s life.

Education
- Masters degree in clinical counseling from Bowie State University
- I practice a holistic supervision style that focuses on a developmental perspective and is strength based. In supervision meetings, we don’t focus on problems only; we focus on what the supervisee feels is going well, what they notice in the therapeutic relationship and what patterns they are seeing with their client. We reflect on how they, as the counselor, are feeling in the session, since this has a large effect on the client also.
- With a solid trusting relationship with a supervisee, we can collaborate and bring deep awareness and insight into their sessions with clients. Through collaboration, we explore different theoretical perspectives and consider what might fit their client. We brainstorm together techniques that may be useful if the client is feeling “stuck”.
- As a supervisor, I am continually listening for any ethical, moral or safety issues that may arise. We discuss common pitfalls and simple mistakes that could lead to bigger issues. Being vigilant in these areas helps to maintain a sense of safety and assurance that we are on the right path. Feeling secure with our basic skills allows us to continue to learn and grow, adding more skills to our repertoire.
- Building self efficacy as a counselor happens naturally as a supervisee gains experience in a supportive environment. My goal is to guide a supervisee into being confident in their skills, and developing a deep understanding of the complexity of the client, the therapeutic relationship, cultural influences, trauma and theoretical orientations.
